Wall Closet

Posted on June 10, 2010.
Wall ClosetShould I build my closet-to-wall before hanging drywall or after?

We took a room back on the amounts and we want to build a wall closet. We do not know whether it is better to block all the drywall for the room, and the construction of wall-or part-built cupboard and then hang all the drywall of the room and cabinet. All pages of the site yourself to the first, but this is usually when adding to an existing room closet. Since we are starting from scratch, which is the best way to go also for the ease and stability?

I was at this game a long time and have questions, and offerings.

You are reducing the size of an existing room by building a closet in his room? Yes?

The room should be finished first, at least to a point to hang the new drywall. You can then bolt in the closet, and you'll only closet walls for drywall, you have limited space, the effort may even save up to 3 walls.

Stability is not a problem at all, unless you take the closet walls to the ceiling.

You will provide leadership for the wardrobe for the existing floor, and know where the existing wall studs are attached to the verticle mounting points.

I suggested hanging and not finsihing before installing closet because you know where the poles are inside the cabinet and finishing work will be an all in one step next. Then, will certainly check mudding, painting, molding, etc. You can even power outlets in the closet, and the development thereof, and the outer walls thereof, which are part the bedroom, you can accomplish this in the process.

I am a bit confused by reading your Q though. You add a closet to an existing room? YES? You've gone as far as you can to "Scratch" once you have removed all existing drywall without tearing spikes.

BTW, no offense, EASY on Smile. This work, and will probably mess, and yet you can enjoy every stage of completion.

Assemble the cabinets first

the development I drywall at the end of framing in the closet.
Stability does not matter ... Framing is easy closet first image and then drywall.

part of your wardrobe for the first wall wardrobe can be an anchor to the sides, without having to break up your cast. This also prevents you from having to patch your cast after hitting him with the 2X4 frame you like.

stud wall first, then drywall, ceiling first in the closet, then again, then the sides. finishing is the hard part if you're not a professional, many think it is easy and mess, you can also texture walls to prevent this. Good luck with the project.

I AM

I agree, before. Also, just a point, stack sheets of gypsum against the existing wall or the back before putting up the new wall wardrobe as this means it is already "inside" the closet, ready to hang.

It could be done anyway. It may be easier to frame the closet after hanging drywall in the room. Thus, the back and sides of the cabinet are already covered and drywall installation inside the cabinet is reduced. You must be careful not to damage the walls of the well during development of the closet well.

I like hanging drywall on the entire space will be (back and sides) inside the closet first. Secondly, it fits in and finally suspend the rest of the room. It will be much easier than trying to cut pieces to fit through your door opening:) Or just hang the whole room, then through the front of the closet ... anyway will be fine!

Yes. Before.

walls must come first! is the rule. fix your ceiling too before the cupboard!
