The bulbs I put in the masthead at the end of our driveway to continue to shatter.? I tried using both conventional and halogen bulbs blow and break-even. I checked the voltage using a VOM and is OK. I changed the head lamp of the mind of the rain was beginning to hot bulb. Suggestions?
I just want to emphasize the importance of what the previous poster said about halogen lamps. Has learned the hard way, myself! Any dirt or any oil from your hand or fingers to the light bulb will go out very quickly if not immediately.
Have you dried them in a very low wattage bulb (even if it does not give the desired lighting effect), as an experiment to see if it is as vulnerable to all the elements that could be at stake here ? That might tell you something.
Find out which neighbor has a BB gun or a child with a BB gun.
If bulbs have a bluish black race when they blow over the water is causing the problem. Check the screws, it does not take but a few drops of a light bulb to explode. If you use a halogen do not touch it. The weight of a finger can explode. Use gloves.
If the glass bulb breaks, you have a temperature differential problem. In other words, the bulb starts to get warm from the temperature from the outside, the glass can not withstand the temperature difference, and it will break. It shattered soon after his entrance, not only after turning it off, and certainly not while he is sitting dormant. A bit like running a jar of pickles in hot water as you can get the cover. He may suddenly burst. same principle. sudden temperature difference. It's the same thing that causes most heart attacks. Most of us are not used to sudden temperature differences in our body and the heart is in thrombosis (rapid, uncontrolled heart beat OT). But anyway, to answer your question, I would say compact fluorescent bulbs. They operate at very cold temperature (you can touch them while they are on), they last a very long time and save up to 60% of energy consumed by an incandescent bulb, and they throw more lumens (light). Hope this helps.

I suspect that the bulb is not tight enough or bad accessory. Either one will cause excessive heat to the cap and cause a crash bulb very premature.

Do not rule out the wiring. One of my friends had a similar problem with a twist. The lights do not last long, but the worms in his garden is lush you around the lamppost. The wrong type of cable was used and he crossed his garden, but I watered every day. One day I was shocked to help pull weeds in the garden and so we understood the problem. The wire was replaced and no more problem. Could be worse.
