What is that bright light and tunnel phenomena that most NDE statements? Most near-death experiencers say the same phenomena through the dark tunnel and encounters with a very bright light that gives them a lot of unconditional love.
Does anyone have information about it?
As the brain loses oxygen, several things happen very quickly:
brain cells start-close, causing confusion, poor cognition, and altered perceptions.
peripheral vision is lost, resulting in the "tunnel vision"
-visual clarity is lost, which blurred, faded images
-The brain releases endorphins, chemicals similar to morphine. Endorphins are powerful analgesics and produce extreme euphoria.
Much medical research is about NDE. It is interesting to note that the effects of the NDE can be generated safely and consistently, in two different ways.
The first method involves placing a person in a centrifuge, a device that generates gravitational forces. The heart has difficulty pumping blood to the brain in these conditions. As the subject enters into unconsciousness, he often feels the lights, tunnels, pleasant memories, feelings of unconditional love, etc. The condition was first reported by fighter pilots, who train in centrifuge to withstand large forces generated by jet fighters.
The second method is to generate NDE by stimulation of certain areas of the brain with electromagnetic waves. This temporarily disrupts the electrical conductivity of neurons in the brain and can produce all kinds of strange perceptual effects, including those normally associated with NDE. By targeting specific areas of the brain, researchers can produce fairly uniform experience of heaven, hell, and many things between
