Levolor Window Blinds

Levolor Window BlindsSecurity Blinds - Not Senseless deaths!

If you are the parent of a child or a baby there are some things you should know and be aware of when it is a choking hazard the blinds or shades. I was deeply saddened to read about the death of a young girl a year in Greenwich, CT. She choked to death on the strings of a roman shade that was on its grounds. In response to this tragedy, IKEA and window blinds Green Mountain Vista is recalling more than 670,000 blinds and shades manufactured in India and China.

So I say it is time for a reminder about the security window blind. There are a few common sense steps to protect your children and your pets for this question. The first step is, of course, aware that some window treatments are a choking hazard. It may seem unlikely, but the cords hanging curtains hang many shades and can be dangerous.

The best way to avoid this danger is to buy window treatments that are not strings at all. That is what the WCSC (Window Coverings Safety Council) recommended - just do not have in your home! There are options you should be aware of this category: wireless, motorized blinds and a control rod. Cordless exist in two forms: a lifting spring, as in solar energy and blinds. However, the option assisted wireless devices, such as wood blinds, faux wood blinds, cellular, pleated, woven wood roman shades. Spring rolls are operated by pulling gently downward and then either increase or lifting. Gear operated assisted by gently pushing or pulling the bottom rail. For blinds, the wireless option includes a wand to open and close (inclination) panes to let in light or darken the room. If you're interested in blinds or sun visor, there will be no control wand. For vertical blinds and tracks configuration, you can choose to buy control of a magic wand that will go blind and rotate the vertical fins. The motorized option also eliminates cords altogether for most products.

When the window position and large size of the shade prevents a cordless or motorized options, the WCSC also approves the use of a continuous cord loop - characteristics of this command option lifting clutch assisted with a cord loop which is anchored to the wall and remains the same length regardless of the position of the shadow.

If you do so blind cords, make sure the cords are supplied with what is called a breakaway tassel. Escaped from an acorn to "break" if pressure is applied, which significantly reduces the risk of choking. Most U.S. manufacturers of window treatments using breakaway tassels on their strings, no additional cost because it's the right thing to do. For this reason, I recommend steering clear of window treatments made in countries where child and pet safety is not a priority. As you know the major U.S. brands are: Hunter Douglas, Bali, Levolor, Graber, COMFORTEX, Springs, Kirsch and Nanik.

If you already have blinds or shades in your home, go through each blind person and check cables. Are they intertwined? "They form a loop? If so, to unravel or separate cables so they do not form a loop, then go to a hardware store and buy a tab for each blind in your home. A cord cleat can be mounted on the window frame, and give you a place to secure the cord in height so it is out of reach. Then, do not place your child's bed, park, near a window if you can avoid it, even with a cleat. Cord cleats are only good if you always attach the cord at the top.
