Hunting Lamps

Hunting LampsLaws of Deer Hunting

There are laws to protect the deer, but some of them are not applied correctly. In Maine, it is possible to take a deer so that the herds are prospered. There are laws that have already banned the hunting of deer so that their populations are maintained.

We had no fighter that some camps were scheduled, but one of the men had made a mudflat at a short distance from the camp and, as he worked all day, the only time he could not visit the lick was the night. I went with him one night when he killed a deer. We were equipped with an acetylene lamp and a minor gun from 0.45 to 90. We waited on a platform in a tree until a deer appeared and then he shot the animal. There was no claim of sport in the murder. It was simply the killing of an animal for its meat and the easiest way safer. Since then I have seen many improvements added to this type of hunting. The acetylene lamp was re placed by the fire of electric lights. The platform of trees has been replaced by the mobile, cushioned seat of a car and the old .45-90 is a relic alongside the guns today. Only the poor deer is lost even in its present form in the light, waiting to be slaughtered.

Using dogs as an aid to hunting deer, while permitted in some areas, is prohibited in most states. Here in Maine, the use of dogs was banned for a long period and, therefore, I had little experience with this type of hunting. We have a few poachers who have dogs and deer use them from time to time, but the punishment is usually a fine dog and the owner, no man who values a dog its use for this purpose.

I saw some of these dogs in action and I can see where there would be a certain amount of sport in this type of hunting, if it was legal and if the dogs were properly trained. Slow-leak dogs that do not lead the deer out of the country seems to be the best dogs deer. The circle deer advance of these dogs would slow arid sports like fox hunting. Most everyone would agree that fox hunting is considered a good sport.

I knew a poacher who was the owner of two dogs he had trained to hunt deer. They were very fast dogs and they have been trained to drive deer to the man's house where he waited to shoot them. boys of this man would take the dogs for a circular road at a point some distance from the house, then turn them loose. If there was a deer between dogs and man's house, the deer had very little chance of turning back from the dogs and it usually ended up hanging in the shed at the man. He does not consider this sport, just an easy way to obtain meat for his family and supplement his income during the deer season when he sold a few bucks to athletes who succumb.

When a hunter goes hunting, he must use these devices for their safety. Today, the equipment used for hunting have such an improvement.
