Semi-private cool and friendly! cactus. Try Waterfountain or groups of pottery southwest wide. A tree, a bush, and a pond. A water feature would be nice, but if you intend to use it in summer, you might have a problem with bees. Maybe go xeroscape - low tide - without sacrificing lushness or shade. For example, using a thorn under Chilean mesquite shade, butterfly and hummingbird plant or plant attractive. Or plants for "perfume" with rosemary, santolina, etc. and use a low growth "fern" plant as lysoloma for shade. If you do not plant directly into the soil, be sure to use "big" pots for best crop production. When using large pots, you also will not have to water them until the water reaches the bottom. This will remove the attraction for many "creepy / crawled" the love of standing water in flower pots. If you use clay pots, be sure to paint the interior with paint evaporative cooler to remove the salts by leaching into the pot and staining. Why not some furniture and some potted plants?
