Dimmable Led

Posted on April 30, 2010.
Dimmable LedThe application Dimmable LED spotlights and bulbs

Among the issues LED dimmability is one of the latest challenges that remain to be fully resolved. LED dimming is theoretically easy, because analog dimming, which is the adjustment of the current, has long been an option. However, this method only works when used safely with an LED bulb. LED systems require a more sophisticated method of grading. The two basic forms are dimming PWM or Pulse-Width Modulation and analog dimming, which are both switching regulators. Both types are similar in that they both control the time average current through the diode.

Analog dimming is a simple way of coloring, it is the adaptation of the cycle by cycle regulated LED current with a potentiometer. The current is adjusted to the LED increases and decreases in intensity.

The disadvantage of analog dimming is that it only works in security until we Sun a single light bulb. LED systems require a more refined technique. The difficulty of a grading system of LED lighting is that there are many types of LEDs, which require different methods of grading. If there is a system of lights we would like Sun, various LEDs can react differently to the same amount of power and the power is reduced some lights can disable it later or earlier than others. Also, analog dimming changes largely the color of the light, even when used with incandescent lamps.

The technique most commonly used dimming LED-Pulse Width Modulation, which is essentially the reduction phase to a certain frequency. PWM switches between devices fully and completely at the stop frequency that can not be said by the human eye, so LED bulbs still work on direct current recommended. The switching frequency determines the brightness of the light, so that more lights are "on" the brightest light will be. This technique is the same as that used in light dimmers and incandescent, except that the incandescent lamps to react to slower currents, and therefore require a different frequency.

Two types of pulse with modulation signals are often used with dimmer: the tip and trailing edge technologies. These two different ways of cutting phase, and result in separate dimming technology. The variable most frequently used exclusively LED technology. Dimmers Marked as R or RL suitable for most LEDs can be dimmed, because they work with the technology and does not include electronic transformers. TRIAC drivers or devices governed by DMX and digital addressable lighting interface (DALI) protocol and in the future may include wireless (RF) as a control option, which is dimmers that turn or slide with a button, all work with a dimmer LED.

Alas technology controlled with a button or push button, are often powered by an electrical transformer, to the exclusion of many LED dimmable.

The other type of technical reduction phase lags advanced technique, commonly used in the MOSFETs or is not appropriate for the majority of LED brightness control. One of the latest inventions to appear on the market is the lamp technology RAIS. RAIS lamps offer a high degree of functionality and seem to work with all types of drives available on the market. However, the technology is still new RAIS, and its long-term effects on LEDs have not been fully tested. If they prove to be trustworthy in their application to national and trade can be much safer and easier than previous dimmable LED bulbs.

In the changing technology of LED, LED Dimmable must still be developed for compatibility and better performance. As there is no general rule for what.
