How do I create a closet in a room? Transforming a living room into a bedroom. Please help!
Wardrobe
A wardrobe / closet is the best bet. The former have been invented to be used as closets in old homes. They have a hanger bar in the top of your hanging clothes and drawers or shelves at the bottom sections folded. All this is hidden behind doors. They are still in use in Europe, where the houses were built without closets.
You should be able to find one at an antiques or flea market. They continue to make the United States, but they now hold most TVs instead of hanging clothes.
A cabinet is the easiest way, but not always the best design of the rational method. However, a cabinet will give you approximately 4'X2 .5 'storage space. Then of course there is the question of choosing one to suit your decor, finding a place to put the thing, and merchandising.
Building a permanent wall to create a space toilet is a simple matter. It will also give you options for the design of other elements that will enhance your space and, if done properly, add value to your home.
If building a permanent wall is not an option, and you need more space than a wardrobe provide, there are two simple and cost effective options that I would say.
1. Buy two racks of clothes and bearing a large folding screen. Place the side racks side by side against the wall and put the screen in front of them. It will cost about $ 100 - $ 120 Wal-Mart.
2. Buy 2 shelves at Walmart. Look for those who are 6 'tall, 4' wide, and 2 'deep. Place them face to face so you have 4'-6 'between them. If you are in WalMart, pick curtains that match your room (or if you sew, material for curtains) and a curtain rod that will reach 4'-6 ".
Go to your local home improvement store and cut yourself a piece of 3 / 4 "to plywood on the top shelf to tie the two together. In addition, you can buy a bar for hanging clothes, a box of 1 wood screws, and three support rods. (The bar will hang clothes plywood, unless you replace the backing cardboard tray with plywood and ...)
Put the plywood on top of storage units, covering the distance between them and the screws. Screw the brackets to support the rod in the bottom of the plywood. (According to the support bars that you buy, you might need to put the rod first.) Hang your curtains on the door.
This will probably cost you about $ 250, but you have created a cabinet with removable shelves inside for storage and a storage area above. It is also "customizable". Because you are working with wood and particle board, you can add moldings, hang pictures (or more shelves) on the shelves, etc.
The only concern here is the cardboard strips to the shelves are standard. However, they can be primed and painted, replaced by plywood or covered with fabric. Heres a tip though, they come with a side of Nice, which is supposed to meet within the shelves. If you put them on the back side of Nice, opposite the hall.
I hope this helps, or at least helps you to think about your own creative solution. Good luck with the project.
